Checkout.com is actively looking for a talented System Operations Engineer with a proven track record of deploying, operating and supporting IT systems within both automated scalable cloud environments and traditional data centers. 
 
The IT Systems Operations Team is responsible for providing second line support, maintenance and management for CKO’s mission critical IT infrastructure and applications which support delivery of our payments platform. This is an exciting and dynamic role involving working closely with a variety of internal technical teams to help ensure delivery of service within defined Service Level Agreements (SLA’s)
 
The role of the Systems Operations Engineer is to ensure high levels of service availability across IT infrastructure through the efficient installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of on premise and cloud server infrastructure, local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) Additional responsibilities include service/trouble ticket management, implementing solutions to an agreed specification, occasional design work and documentation.
 
The ideal candidate is selfmotivated, collaborative and communicative with a positive hands-on and can-do-attitude, willing to work in an uncompromising and high pace environment. A strong combination of technical, administration, troubleshooting, communication and documentation skills is vital to success in this role.

About You

  • Degree in IT, Computer Science or Engineering
  • 5+ years’ experience of IT systems operation, administrations and support in a corporate environment
  • A combination of IT certifications such as AWS-SO, AWS-SAA , CCNA , CEH , MCSA, ITIL and RHCSA advantageous
  • Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins)
  • Scripting knowledge (Bash, Python, powershell)
  • Experience with VMWare technologies
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and Linux based implementations
  • Experience of managing IT solutions in hosted data centers
  • Experience in operating cloud based services, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Experience with LAN/WAN networks (TCP/IP, Routing Protocols, DNS, ACL. etc) and security thereof
  • Experience operating within a change controlled environment
  • Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience
  • Proven ability to work in high pressure, agile environment
  • Proven ability to work independently and within a team
  • Possess excellent analytics & troubleshooting skills
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge on the credit card payments industry (Acquirers, Issuers, Schemes networks) advantageous  
  • Flexibility to work an out of hours rotation system. (Includes weekends and public holidays)
  • Fluency in English essential

What you'll be doing

  • Be responsible for maintaining an exceptional level of service throughout Checkout.com’s IT infrastructure by working in close in coordination with IT 1st and 3rd level, Security and Product teams to deliver, operate and provide technical support for our cloud, data centre and network infrastructure
  • Provide business as usual administration and support of the cloud platform and datacenter implementations
  • Manage handover of new solutions from IT development and implementation teams and oversee delivery into the Production environment [1] [2] 
  • Provide guidance, documentation and training to allow 1st level teams to accurately monitor and manage system performance
  • Work with business and technology stakeholders to ensure cloud solutions suit business needs while remaining fully operable to deliver service
