Job Description

The Release Engineer will own/ co-own the Release Management lifecycle which includes scheduling, coordinating and the management of releases across the enterprise for multiple applications across various Portfolios. The releases can be inclusive of application updates, operating system patches, security improvements, hardware upgrades, Projects and Programs. The Release Engineer will be responsible for implementing and managing release processes for the progression of code in the development, test and production environments and will work collaboratively with all participants in software development projects.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Forward Plan the release windows and cycles across a portfolio
  • Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
  • Measure and monitor progress to ensure application releases are delivered on time and within budget, and that they meet or exceed expectations
  • Coordinate release content and effort based on the service request backlog, pending service requests, third party applications, or operating system updates
  • Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations
  • Weekly Release Reporting
  • Negotiate, plan and manage all release activities
  • Work with lead devs to understand impacts of branches and code merges
  • Continually work towards making improvements in the release process
  • Creation of roll back scenarios for releases planned
  • Maintain a release repository and manage key information such as build and release procedures, dependencies and notification lists
  • Liaise with all stakeholders (QA, Development, Operations, Data, Product, and Project Managers) to manage any issues, requests and conflicts.
  • Execute, control and manage a schedule of planned releases to pre-production and production environments
  • Ability to create build scripts in Bash and edit existing ones.
  • Understanding of cloud AWS and micro services (Good to have)
  • Knowledge of OOP and MVC PHP (Good to have)
  • Sound knowledge of Linux.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 2-6 years of previous IT projects related experience, (Fair understanding of project management principles preferred)
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional work teams toward task completion
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and analytical skills
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills are a must
  • Understanding of agile methodology
  • GIT understanding / Experience with CVS (Code Versioning; Knowing Bitbucket would be a plus)
  • Knowledge on Continuous Deployment and integration (Knowing Bamboo would be a plus)
  • Sound knowledge of Linux and system infrastructures.
  • Bash Scripting Knowledge
  • Able to work under pressure with strong multi-tasking and organisational capabilities
  • Ability to think logically and execute methodically, a creative solution-finder, technically and commercially credible, self-confident, able to work independently
  • An out-going person who is willing to learn and adapt quickly in a fast paced working environment
  • Analytically minded and able to draw conclusions when looking at data and creating reports
  • A good team player with excellent communication skills and a strong commercial focus
